“Digital Marketing and Politics” featuring the digital marketing teams from the DA and the ANC

Ingrained in all the pre-election hype was a debate about whether the digital marketing efforts of the two biggest parties were really effective. Barack Obama recently used digital communication to great effect in the USA presidential election. How much did we really learn from his example? Did the ANC and DA find that their digital presence helped? Does sms marketing work? And how many people really use the mobile internet?

Ant Hazell, the Communications Director of the DA, and Steyn Speed, the ANC’s Communications Co-ordinator, are going to present their answers mid-way through May.

Net Prophet

Net Prophet is a new initiative created to inspire creativity and the flow of ideas among entrepreneurs and stake-holders who operate in the internet-tech space in Africa & South Africa.

Coming off a seven-year investment high especially in the US, when IT companies raised nearly $15 billion, Internet (and related) based technology companies continue to rake in investment. In Africa & South Africa, the uptake has been slower, but for several compelling reasons, the future potential for Internet based technology businesses is massive. The mobile web is of particular interest in our context.

Will these recently successful technologies continue to shine in the coming years? Which technologies and technology businesses in Africa and specifically South Africa will succeed in going forward?
